The city of inExeter.
InExeter is a business improvement district company. We celebrate the city, support local business and deliver change.
A small city that packs a big punch, Exeter is one of the most vibrant, attractive and historically interesting cities in England. InExeter is the business improvement district (BID) for Exeter city centre. We’re the organisation supporting and championing businesses, celebrating the city and delivering change.
Nationally, BIDs generate more than £750m, which is invested in delivering local initiatives and improvements over and above those mandated by local authorities. The Exeter BID comprises over 750 businesses, varying in sector, with the majority being retail and hospitality organisations. The Exeter BID was set up in 2015 and our current term runs 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2025.
Why we exist.
We exist to better Exeter. Businesses within the BID area collectively invest in the success and future of Exeter through InExeter. Our purpose is to support the city, championing the businesses and deliver projects that improve the city for all. This includes working closely with city stakeholders including Exeter City Council, Exeter Chamber of Commerce, Devon County Council.
InExeter is governed by a Board of Directors who are volunteers representing their sector or area. They are responsible for the effective delivery of the business projects and services and driving forward InExeter’s vision and objectives.

What we do.
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led and business-funded body formed to improve a defined commercial area. InExeter is an independent company run by businesses for the benefit of local businesses. The levy fund collected is invested directly back into the area.
We aim to transform Exeter for everyone who works, lives or visits here. InExeter businesses and stakeholders come together to set these development priorities. They form the basis of the Exeters BID plans. Our initiatives focus on four themes; Enhanced Environment, Safer Centre, Better Business and Distinctive Destination.
Welcoming & Attractive Streets
InExeter plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and vibrancy of the streetscape. Experience, enjoyment and perception of our city streets should be positive and welcoming. We also invest heavily in landscaping, planting and greening initiatives.
InExeter commissioned Night Time Economy Solutions to work on a strategy for the evening and night time economy. The outputs from this will lead to our application for Purple Flag status. We are working to enhance the experience of Exeter in the evening.
