The Eyes of Isca.
The Eyes of Isca is the second installation in InExeter’s 2025–2030 Street Art Project, transforming a prominent seven-storey wall in the West Quarter into a bold celebration of Exeter.
The Design.
When artist Szabotage shared his vision for the site, the project steering group was drawn to the way it captured the character, heritage and creativity of the West Quarter. The finished artwork brings those stories together on a scale that’s impossible to miss.
To refine the design, Szabotage explored the West Quarter, meeting local businesses, speaking with visitors and working with a local historian to understand the area’s identity. The resulting artwork weaves together a collection of duo-tone motifs representing the people, places and stories connected to the neighbourhood. Some references are instantly recognisable, while others invite curiosity.
At its centre is a portrait of a woman, recognising the people who shape the West Quarter. Drawing on his architectural background, Szabotage designed the mural to incorporate the wall’s shape and create a multi-faceted artwork. Different elements emerge as you move through the space, rewarding a closer look and revealing new details each time.
About the Artist.
Gustav Szabo, the artist behind Szabotage, is a Devon-based muralist whose work uses colour and stencil imagery to bring together local history, culture and everyday moments.
We’re delighted to showcase Szabotage’s work in partnership with the property owner, transforming this prominent city-centre wall into a landmark piece of public art.
